Responsibilities of the Senior Network Engineer:

  • Part of a shift supporting team providing onsite coverage from 6 AM to 9 PM
  • Install and monitor a wide range of telecommunication devices
  • Offer technical support to customers and resolve network-related problems
  • Collaborate with vendors to research, acquire, upgrade, and maintain internetworking management equipment
  • Lead and implement tasks such as Ethernet and fiber cable runs, hardware installations, rack elevations, and power requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability of network-related software and hardware
  • Manage incidents, coordinate technical projects, and handle user requests using a proprietary ticketing system
  • Document high-level system engineering designs, test cases, standard operating procedures, and implementation plans
  • Prepare progress reports and deliver technical demos to peers, management, and customers
  • Provide training and guidance to junior engineers
  • Participate in on-call rotational support

Qualifications and Skills Required for the Senior Network Engineer:

  • College Degree is a must
  • Eight (8) years of experience in administering, operating, maintaining, and securing large-scale internetworking environments in a government organization
  • One (1) year in a technical leadership or supervisory role
  • Three (3) years of direct support experience in complex network administration
  • Expertise in troubleshooting IPv4 issues across various protocols and technologies (OSPF, static routing, MPLS, HSRP, SSH, ACL, VLAN, VSAN, VTP, STP, Trunking, SNMP, LACP, vPC, VoIP, Port Channels, Wireshark, and TCPdumps)
  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco and HP routers and switches (ISR, ASR, 9500, 9300, 6513, 3850, 3750, 2960, 2920, 2910, Nexus 2k, 5k, and 7k)
  • Two (2) years of experience with network IT monitoring and management software (ForeScout CounterACT, Netscout nGenius, Solarwinds)
  • One (1) year of data center operations experience, including knowledge of hardware specifications and lights-out-management practices
  • Thorough knowledge of telecommunications and network security best practices
  • Exceptional customer service orientation and strong communication skills, both written and oral

Certifications and Tools:

  • Technical certification (e.g., Cisco Certified Network Associate, Cisco Certified Design Associate, Cisco Certified Network Professional, Cisco Certified Design Professional)
  • Experience with Cisco management and support tools, Solarwinds or similar network monitoring tools, and Microsoft Visio or similar tools

Desirable Skills for the Senior Network Engineer:

  • Ability to present complex network solutions to stakeholders
  • Strong technical writing skills for creating detailed solutions, implementation plans, and incident documentation
  • Self-motivated and capable of learning and training others
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
